Friday 27. march 17 - 19.30 Traditional Kaula Yoga - Breath as a cycle of life
That which you call yourself, is your breath. If you change your breath, you change yourself.
Breathing of all things has the greatest impact on your health. It owns the power to change the mode of your whole nervous system. It is capable of charging you with energy, alleviating fear and stress as well as shifting your perspective on things. Breath determines our lives, affects our moods - and forms a perfect cycle.
Time runs linearly, it seems, but yoga has always viewed the world as cyclic. In the core of the cyclic world view lies the concept of prana, the life current or life force. Breath can be understood as a gross expression of prana, the closest and easiest for us to understand. It will reveal us the basic principles of prana-based practice and show us cyclic patterns on all levels. As above, so below.
In this workshop you will experience the methods of traditional kaula yoga that is deeply rooted in Ayurveda, the Indian science of life. You will understand the basic building blocks for a balancing, skillful yoga practice and start to appreciate the breath as a sophisticated, subtle tool for transforming life.
FOR WHOM: The workshop is suitable for all levels. Prior experience is not necessary. Especially I welcome anyone who is interested in getting more intimate with breathing and in using breathing tools for improving health. For more experienced practitioners the workshop gives valuable insight into prana-based asana practice and cyclic world view.
WHAT IS KAULA YOGA: Kaula yoga is a tantric yoga system that encourages its practitioners to live to their full potential and to celebrate life. Deeply rooted in the vedic science, the system sees human as whole, mind and body being like two sides of a coin. Yoga is seen as a wholesome practice for optimizing life, living without limiting fears and shifting awareness. (Note! As opposed to neo-tantra, tantra is not traditionally interested in sexuality.)
ABOUT SANNI: Sanni Parkkinen is an experienced yoga teacher (RYT-500) coming originally from Finland. Sanni appreciates her Nordic roots by working with drums and guiding her students through meditative journeys.
PRACTICAL INFO: Sanni will give a short talk about the theme and then guide you through a Viayama (warm up) sequence, balancing Tri Dosha (yoga asana) sequence and some pranayama practices.
